Abstract

Serving 30,576 students, it is crucial that educational programs provide academic rigor and spark ingenuity while also preparing students to enter college or the workforce. We are looking for unique ways to serve our military families and hope that by introducing an immersion program for elementary students, families will see why Santa Rosa is the number one education destination. SRCSD also plans to utilize technology to increase Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) course offerings. SRC recognizes that "students learning languages starting at the K-12 levels develop higher language proficiency than those starting in college" (United States, Congress, 2012). To prepare students for a competitive global economy, we must introduce and expose students to World Languages. Through this proposed project, we aim to advance academic excellence and provide a seamless learning transition from elementary language immersion to expanded course offerings in secondary classrooms, and eventual success in postsecondary opportunities.
